Winnebago County will host its annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale on November 19, 2024, at the Winnebago County Court House, located in the County Board Room, 8th Floor, 400 W State St., Rockford, Illinois, 61101. Registration is from October 1 to October 25, and the auction starts promptly at 9:00 AM. This event will continue until all properties with unpaid taxes are sold.

Terms of Sale:

Deposit: They Rrequire A $500 registration fee, which applies to your tax purchases. If you do not attend or do not actively participate, this deposit is forfeited.

Delinquent Property List: Available for $200, showing parcels with unpaid taxes.

Payment: Bidders must make full payment for winning bids using certified funds, such as a cashier’s check. If you do not purchase any taxes, we will refund the $500 registration deposit.

How to Participate:

Register as a Tax Buyer: Registration begins on October 1, 2024, and ends on October 25, 2024. Contact the Treasurer’s office at (815) 319-4400 to receive the registration form.

Provide Bank Letter: All first-time buyers must submit a letter from their bank certifying they have adequate funds.

Attend Auction: Attend the county’s live, in-person auction. They do not permit Bids via phone or internet. Bidders compete by offering the lowest interest rate, capped at 9%.

Follow Bidding Process: Registered buyers will bid down interest rates, and the lowest bid wins the right to purchase unpaid taxes for that parcel.

Redeem Property Taxes: Property owners have 2 ½ years to redeem (buy back) their taxes or 2 years for vacant land. You must handle redemption through the Winnebago County Clerk’s office.
