Boone County Tax Information
Boone County will host its Annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale Auction on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 9:00 AM. This event will take place in the Boone County Administration Campus, Courtroom 2D, located at 1212 Logan Avenue, Belvidere, IL 61008. At this sale, we will auction tax lien certificates for delinquent property and mobile home taxes from 2023. This sale does not transfer the title to real estate; instead, it allows the lien holder to earn interest until the property owner redeems the property.

Terms of Sale
Submit the registration fee along with a completed Single Bidder Affidavit and IRS Form W-9.. You can download the form from the Boone County Treasurer’s Office website.
Bidding starts at 9% interest and will be conducted in person using the Real Time Auction Management System (R.A.M.S.). The tax sale certificate is awarded to the bidder offering the lowest interest rate. You can view a tutorial on R.A.M.S. here.
Tax buyers are responsible for paying the full amount of taxes, penalties, and fees owed on the properties they successfully bid on the same day. Accepted forms of payment include cash, personal/business checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders.
How to Participate
Register: Complete the Certificate of Registration form and submit it with the $250 deposit and IRS Form W-9 by October 16, 2025. All forms can be accessed on the Boone County Treasurer’s website.
Check-In: Check in on the morning of the sale (by 8:30 AM), bringing a signed blank check for the taxes owed on any property you successfully bid on.
Bid In-Person: Attend the sale in the traditional open-outcry format. You or your registered representative must be physically present to place bids.
Additional Information
The Boone County Treasurer’s office will publish a list of available tax liens in local newspapers and on its website about three to four weeks before the sale. You can purchase a PDF version for $70, which includes a printed update on the day of the sale.
The sale is final and takes place once a year.
Boone County purchases any unsold liens on behalf of the taxing districts.
