Champaign County Tax Information

Champaign County will host its annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale on October 31, 2025, at 9:00 AM, in the Shields-Carter Meeting Room, located at 1776 E. Washington St., Urbana, IL 61802. Registration opens on October 11, 2024, with the auction beginning promptly at 9:00 AM. This event will continue until all delinquent properties are sold.

Terms of Sale:

A $500 deposit is required for registration, and the buyer must check in with a signed check (leaving the amount blank) payable to Champaign County Collector.

They will add a 10% buyer’s premium to the final purchase price, with additional fees such as:

$20.00 Indemnity Fee

$10.00 Tax Sale Automation Fee

$60.00 Interest Fee

$4.00 County Clerk Fee

Payment is due on the day of the sale, including taxes purchased, penalties, and fees. Acceptable forms of payment include cashier’s checks, certified funds, and wire transfers.

How to Participate:

Register with the Champaign County Treasurer’s Office by October 30, 2025. Submit the required Certificate of Registration and a $500 deposit.

Check-in starts at 8:30 AM on the day of the sale, and bidders must provide a blank signed check.

Bidders must be present or have an agent present at the auction to bid. Bidding starts at 9% for real estate and 18% for mobile homes. The sale will be held using the Real Time Auction Management System (RAMS).
