Marion County runs its annual Surplus Property (Tax Deed) Sealed‑Bid Auction on Friday, October 2, 2026. Submit your bid online at ilTaxSaleBids.com or hand‑deliver a sealed bid with full payment to the Treasurer’s Office, 100 E. Main St., Suite 105, Salem, IL 62881, by 4:00 p.m. CT. No live, verbal bidding takes place.

Terms of Sale:

Pay in full with your bid. Make payment to “County Trustee.” (Real estate sealed bids accept personal check, cashier’s check, money order, or bank draft.) Mobile home sealed bids require certified funds (cashier’s check, money order, or bank draft). No cash. +1

Highest bid wins. If two bidders tie at the top, the sale office contacts you with tiebreak instructions. The County may reject any bid or pull any parcel.

Buy “as‑is.” Inspect each parcel. Confirm code status, permits, demolition actions, utilities, and any municipal fees before you bid.

Deed and taxes. The County issues a quitclaim deed about 90 days after it receives full payment. You pay 2026 taxes and later.

Who cannot buy. County employees and their relatives cannot purchase.

Mobile homes (special rules). The land does not transfer. Verify the VIN within 30 days. If the home sits in a manufactured home community, qualify for tenancy or remove the home within 30 days after title. Out‑of‑state addresses cannot receive a Tax Certificate of Title by mail. Register the home with the local assessment office within 30 days after habitation.

How to Participate:

Review the catalog and parcel list. Start at the Marion page on ILTaxSale.com; note each item number and PIN.

Create your bidding account at ilTaxSaleBids.com (online option).

Inspect the property from the public right‑of‑way. Confirm local code/permit status and any demolition orders with city/village officials.

Set your maximum bid. Fill out the Binding Purchase Contract / Sealed Bid for real estate or the Sealed Bid – Purchase Offer for mobile homes. Include payment in full and deliver your sealed envelope marked “SEALED BID” to the Treasurer by 4:00 p.m. CT on Oct 3—or submit online before the deadline.

Watch for results. The sale office notifies winners and posts results after the close of bidding.
