Polk County will sell tax lien certificates for delinquent property taxes through GovEase. Successful bidders must complete payment by online e-check through GovEase by June 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM CDT.
GovEase charges a non-refundable $40 registration fee for each bidding account designated for the Polk County auction. Each bidding account also needs the required tax form before GovEase can approve bidding access.
Individual bidders must submit an IRS W-9 form. Foreign individuals or foreign entities must complete the correct IRS W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E form instead of a W-9. Business bidders must upload an active Certificate of Existence or Trade Name document for each business bidding account. Polk County also requires ACH bank account information for each designated bidding account for redemption-related payments.
Iowa tax sale buyers purchase a tax lien certificate, not the property itself. If the property owner or another qualified party redeems the tax sale certificate, the redemption amount includes the original delinquent tax sale amount plus interest allowed under Iowa law. If the owner does not redeem within the required time, the certificate holder may start the legal process to request a tax deed after meeting Iowa notice and timing rules.
