Stark County Tax Sale Information
Stark County will host its annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale on October 29, 2025, at the Stark County Courthouse, 130 W Main St, Toulon, IL 61483. Register at the Stark County Treasurer’s Office (same address) no later than 4:30 pm on October 15, 2025; the auction starts at 1:00 pm.

Terms of Sale:
Auction format: You bid down the penalty percentage; the lowest penalty wins each parcel. Illinois law caps the penalty at 9% per six‑month period
Pay at close: Pay all balances at the end of the sale using a signed blank check; the collector keeps the sale open until payment posts.
Eligibility rules: Do not bid on any parcel where you or your entity hold an interest; do not collude or bid‑rig with others; only one bidder may bid under each registration; the County titles certificates using your registration details.
What you receive: The County Clerk issues a Certificate of Purchase; you may assign certificates.
Redemption math: If the owner redeems, the County Clerk calculates the amount of redemption; your penalty applies every six months based on your winning bid.
Redemption period (effective 2024 law):
General rule: 2.5 years from the sale date.
1 year for vacant non‑farm, 7+ unit residential, or commercial/industrial property.
The certificate holder can extend the final redemption date up to 3 years from the sale date by timely notice before the current deadline.
How to Participate:
Download and complete the Delinquent Tax Sale Registration Form (includes Substitute W‑9 with SSN/FEIN).
Deliver the completed form and the $50 deposit check to the Stark County Treasurer’s Office by 4:30 pm on October 15, 2025.
Order the delinquent parcel list (optional): $20 by email or $25 by mail (send a separate check).
Arrive at the courthouse on October 29; check in and bring a signed blank check to settle purchases at close.
Bid your penalty percentage (0%–9%); the lowest penalty wins.
Settle balances immediately after the auction.
