Terms of Sale

All properties are sold as-is and may be subject to existing liens, including but not limited to mortgage, federal, state, and Medicaid liens.

Winning bidders must pay a $200 deposit per parcel on the day of the sale. Failure to complete the payment may result in forfeiture of the property and exclusion from future auctions.

Jefferson County recommends obtaining a title search by a licensed professional prior to bidding, as tax sale properties may contain undisclosed issues.

How to Participate

Pre-Register: Arrive at the Jefferson County Courthouse at least 30 minutes early on sale day to register and receive a bidder number. Bidders must present valid photo identification and provide two phone numbers along with one valid mailing address.

Attend the Auction: Only registered bidders can enter the courtroom; no children may enter. Each bidder may represent one bid number.

Complete Payment: Winning bidders must submit payment on the day of sale and provide their full balance within the specified timeframe.

The Jefferson County tax auction provides an opportunity for buyers to acquire properties potentially at a reduced price. Interested parties should research thoroughly and arrive early for registration. Winning a bid can lead to a rewarding investment; however, buyers should actively verify title details because tax auctions operate on a buyer-beware basis. For further details, including property listings, contact the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office at (740) 283-1966, ext. 114, or visit the county’s official tax sale page.
