Wilbarger County, Texas, conducts tax sales to recover unpaid property taxes and return delinquent properties to productive use. These public auctions, known as tax foreclosure sales, are managed by the Wilbarger County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office in collaboration with legal firms specializing in delinquent tax recovery.

Tax Sale Process

  1. Scheduling and Location

Tax sales are held on the first Tuesday of each month between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Auctions take place at the Wilbarger County Courthouse in Vernon, Texas.

Check out our Auction Calendar for scheduled auctions.
  2. Property Listings

A list of available properties is published before the auction, including legal descriptions and minimum bid amounts, which cover delinquent taxes, penalties, interest, and associated costs.

Property information can be obtained from the law firm McCreary, Veselka, Bragg & Allen, PC, which administers the sales.
  3. Bidding Process

The county sells properties to the highest bidder during the public auction.

Winning bidders must make immediate payment, typically in certified funds or cash.
  4. Post-Sale Procedures

Successful bidders receive a Sheriff’s Deed or Tax Deed, depending on the county’s procedures.

Properties sold are subject to a redemption period, allowing the original owner to reclaim the property by paying the owed taxes plus additional fees.

Key Considerations

As-Is Sale The county sells all properties “as-is” without providing warranties regarding their title or condition. Buyers should conduct thorough due diligence, including title searches and property inspections, before bidding.

Redemption Period Texas law provides a redemption period for tax-sale properties:

Homestead and Agricultural Properties: 2 years.

Other Properties: 6 months.

Additional Taxes Buyers may be responsible for paying taxes not included in the minimum bid amount.
