Newton County will hold its Delinquent Property Tax Sale on November 5, 2024, at the Courthouse Door of Newton County, Texas. Registration for this auction begins before the sale, and bidding will start at 10:00 a.m.

Terms of Sale:

Payment Requirements: Payments must be made immediately with cash or a cashier’s check payable to either Margie Herrin, Collector for Newton ISD/Burkeville ISD cases, or Melissa Burks, Tax Assessor/Collector for Newton County cases. Note: bidders who fail to pay are liable for 20% of the property’s value plus associated costs (per Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 652).

Deed and Title: Purchasers will receive a Sheriff’s Deed with no warranty of title; obtaining title insurance may be difficult.

Redemption Period: Under Texas Tax Code Section 33.51, the redemption period starts once the deed is filed—two years for homestead or agricultural land and 180 days for all other properties.

Minimum Bids: The listing of minimum bids per tract includes delinquent taxes up to the judgment date. Buyers will pay any additional taxes that have accrued since then.

Delinquent Tax Statement: Purchasers must obtain a statement from the Newton County Tax Office verifying that they owe no delinquent taxes to the county or any district within it before receiving a deed.

How to Participate:

Registration: Register on-site before the sale begins. Bidders must present a valid government-issued ID. Representatives bidding for a business entity must have authorized documentation.

Bidder Fee and Form: Submit a $10.00 registration fee and application form to the Newton County Tax Assessor’s office by October 29, 2024.
