Howard County will hold its annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale on August 6, 2025, as an Online auction. Registration opens on July 14, 2025, and closes on July 28, 2025. The auction will begin at 9:00 AM.

Terms of Sale

Howard County will auction tax lien certificates for properties with delinquent taxes, water and sewer bills, or other liens. Property owners will receive tax sale notices on or around March 1, 2025, and the county will advertise delinquent properties in the Howard County Times / Columbia Flier for at least four weeks before the sale.

Successful bidders will not receive ownership of the property immediately. Instead, they will hold a tax lien certificate, and property owners will have a redemption period to settle their debts before foreclosure can proceed.

How to Participate

Registration for the tax sale is mandatory and runs from July 14th to July 28th.

All bidders must register online and submit the required non-refundable registration fee.

Bidders must ensure they understand Maryland’s Tax-Property Article (Title 14, Subtitle 8), which governs the redemption process for properties sold at tax sale.
