Knox County will host its Real Estate Sealed-Bid Tax Deed Auction on October 24, 2025. You must submit your bid either online at the state’s auction portal or hand-deliver a sealed written bid with full payment to the Treasurer at the courthouse, 200 S. Cherry St., Galesburg, IL 61401 (office hours 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Mon–Fri). The minimum bid starts at $832.00. No verbal bidding will take place. Highest bid wins.

Terms of Sale

You must include full payment with any sealed written bid (personal check, cashier’s check, money order, or bank draft payable to County Trustee). If someone outbids you, the County returns your original payment. Tied bids move into a tie-break process. The County can reject any bid or withdraw parcels.

Online winners have seven days to submit full payment after email notice.

All property sells “as-is.” You must inspect parcels and check with local authorities for condemnation, demolition, or code issues before bidding. County officers and employees (and certain relatives) cannot purchase.

The County conveys title by quitclaim deed about 90 days after full payment. You are responsible for your own title examination. If you find a defect making the title unmarketable, you can rescind within the set timeframe.

Future taxes: You assume responsibility for all taxes and assessments due after January 1, 2026.

Option A — Online Bidding:

Create an account at ILTaxSaleBids.com.

Verify parcel/item number in the catalog.

Enter your highest bid (at or above $832).

Agree to terms and submit before deadline.

Watch for an email if you win; then pay in full within seven days.

Option B — Sealed Written Bid:

Obtain the Binding Purchase Contract/Sealed Bid form from the Treasurer.

Fill in parcel number, item number, bid, date, and your full contact details.

Sign the form.

Include full payment (no cash).

Place in an envelope labeled “SEALED BID – ITEM #___” and hand-deliver before the deadline.

Unsuccessful bidders receive their payment back. Successful bidders get confirmation and the County processes the deed.
