Sangamon County Tax Sale Information

Sangamon County runs a Sealed Bid sale for tax-deeded real estate and mobile homes. Submit your bid online at iltaxsalebids.com or hand-deliver a sealed bid to the Treasurer. The deadline to receive bids is Friday, November 6, 2025, 5:00 p.m. (CT) at the Sangamon County Building, 200 S. Ninth St., Room 303, Springfield, IL 62701. The Treasurer’s office lists business hours as 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Terms of Sale:

You buy as-is. Investigate zoning, code issues, demolitions, and liens before you bid. The County may withdraw parcels or reject bids. County employees and certain relatives cannot purchase (55 ILCS 5/1-1001).

Payment (Real Estate, sealed written bids): include full payment with your bid by personal check, cashier’s check, money order, or bank draft (no cash). If you lose, the office returns your original payment. Online high bidders receive email instructions and have 7 days to pay in full.

Payment (Mobile Homes): include certified funds only (cashier’s check, money order, or bank draft) with sealed bids. If you lose, the office returns your payment. Mobile homes in parks may require community approval or removal within 30 days.

Title & Deed: The County issues a quitclaim deed for real estate about 90 days after full payment. You pay future taxes starting January 1, 2026. Mobile homes transfer by Tax Certificate of Title after court order; land does not transfer with the home.

After-Sale: If parcels do not sell, you can buy many of them online at the minimum bid. Results and unsold lists appear on the official sale website.

How to Participate:

  1. Create an account at the official bidding site for online bids. Verify the item number and property details. Submit your highest bid; only the top bid wins.

  2. Hand-deliver a sealed bid to the Treasurer (Room 303) or mail early so it arrives by November 6, 2025, 5:00 p.m. Place one bid + one payment per envelope marked “SEALED BID” with the Item #.

  3. Inspect the property from the public right-of-way. Do not enter. Confirm permits, violations, and utilities with local authorities.

  4. Watch your mail/email. The office notifies successful bidders; if ties occur, they issue tie-bid instructions.
