Burnet County will host its annual delinquent property tax sale on the first Tuesday of the Month. The sale is an online auction conducted through the MVBA tax‑sale platform. Prospective bidders must register on the platform at least 24 hours before the sale and upload a government‑issued ID or business documents. Bidding opens at 10:00 AM (Central Time) and closes at 4:00 PM, but any bid placed within the final two minutes extends the auction for an additional two minutes. Drive‑by viewing is the only inspection method; additional property data is available through the Burnet Central Appraisal District (Burnet CAD). The auction will feature 19 lots sold “as‑is” to the highest bidder, and the county may withdraw lots before the sale starts.

Terms of Sale

Payment and Fees: Winning bidders must pay the full bid amount within 48 hours of the auction’s close. Accepted methods include credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) via the District Clerk’s payment website, cash or cashier’s check in person at the Burnet County District Clerk’s office (1701 E. Polk Street, Suite 90, Burnet, Texas 78611, or cashier’s check/money order by overnight mail. The sale has no buyer’s premium. Failure to pay in full may result in liability for 20 % of the property value plus costs and revocation of bidding privileges.

Deed and Title: Buyers receive a Sheriff’s Deed without warranty; title insurance may be difficult to obtain. Property is sold by legal description and “as is”; bidders must verify location, improvements, and condition. Manufactured-home‑only accounts do not include real estate.

Taxes and Liens: The opening bid includes delinquent taxes as of the date of judgment; buyers are responsible for taxes accruing after judgment and for any municipal or property‑owner association liens.

Right of Redemption: Texas law gives former owners a redemption period – two years for homestead, agricultural, and mineral property, and 180 days for other properties. To redeem, the owner must reimburse the purchaser plus a 25 % premium in the first year and 50 % in the second year. Investors should avoid costly renovations during this period.

Possession: Buyers gain the right of possession 20 days after the deed is recorded. Properties may be removed from the sale prior to 10:00 AM on the sale date.

How to Participate

Pre‑Register Online: Create an account on MVBA Tax Sales and register at least 24 hours before August 5. Upload a copy of a government ID (or corporate documents if bidding for a business) and enter the grantee name exactly as it should appear on the deed.

Research Properties: Use the Burnet CAD property search to review parcel data and check for improvements or liens. Only drive‑by inspection is allowed.

Ensure Eligibility: Verify you do not owe delinquent taxes in Burnet County. You may need to provide a statement from the county tax office confirming your taxes are current.

Set Your Bids: You may place a maximum bid; the system will bid on your behalf up to your max. Monitor the auction, especially during the last minutes when the 2‑minute extension rule applies.

Complete Payment: If you win, pay the full amount within 48 hours using the approved payment methods. Keep proof of payment and follow up with the District Clerk’s office for deed recording.
