Bastrop County Tax Sale Information

Bastrop County will host its Delinquent Property Tax Sale on the first Tuesday of the month, at the Historical Courthouse Building, 803 Pine Street, Bastrop, Texas 78602. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. in Room 115 on the morning of the sale, with the auction commencing at 10:00 a.m.

Terms of Sale:

The tax sale will be held via public auction, with properties sold to the highest oral bidder. Bidders are required to bring a valid driver’s license or other government-issued ID.

Payment: Bidders must make all payments payable to Ellen Owens, T.A.C. Buyers who fail to pay will be liable for 20% of the property’s value plus costs due to default.

Minimum Bids: Each property listing includes a minimum bid amount, covering only the taxes due as of the judgment date. Additional current-year taxes are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Sheriff’s Deed: Properties are sold with a Sheriff’s Deed without warranty, meaning title insurance may not be available.

Right of Redemption: There is a 2-year redemption period for homestead/agricultural properties and a 180-day period for other properties. Redemption includes the purchase price, deed recording fee, and any costs incurred, plus a premium of 25% in the first year or 50% in the second year. Purchasers cannot take possession for 20 days following the deed recording.

How to Participate:

Register on Sale Day: Bidders must register at the Historical Courthouse in Room 115 starting at 9:00 a.m. to receive a bid number. You do not need to pay a registration fee, but you must register to participate in the auction.

Documentation for Bidding on Behalf of Entities: If you bid on behalf of a corporation or another individual, you must provide notarized authorization documentation.
