Laurens County Tax Sale Information

Laurens County will host its annual Delinquent Property Tax Sale Auction on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Laurens County Courthouse at 100 Hillcrest Square, Suite M Circuit Court, Laurens, SC. Registration is required by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024, with the auction beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please note: no bidder registrations will be accepted on the day of the sale. Late arrivals on the day of the auction will not be permitted entry.

Terms of Sale:

Laurens County’s tax sale follows procedures specified in South Carolina law (Title XII, Chapter 51). To participate, each bidder must be pre-registered and pay a non-refundable registration fee of $25.

Payment of Winning Bids: All bidders must settle their winning bids by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the auction. Accepted payment types include cash, postal money orders, cashier’s checks, certified checks, MasterCard, Discover, and Visa. Failure to pay on the day of the sale will result in a $500 penalty per defaulted parcel.

Opening Bids: The Forfeited Land Commission (FLC) places an initial bid covering taxes, penalties, and costs on each property. If no additional bids come in, the FLC may offer the property for assignment.

Redemption Rights: Property owners have the right to redeem sold properties within one year of the sale. During this period, the winning bidder may receive interest payments, up to 12%, based on the duration until redemption. The county will issue tax deeds for unredeemed properties approximately 30–60 days after the redemption period expires.

Important Note: Bidders are responsible for any necessary title quieting after the redemption period ends. Please consult a legal professional to understand this process fully.

How to Participate:

Pre-register by November 29, 2024: All bidders must complete registration by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024, either in person at the Laurens County Tax Office or through the county’s online registration portal. A $25 fee applies.

Arrive Before Auction Starts: Arrive before 8:30 a.m. on December 4, 2024, to check-in. Only registered bidders and their agents may enter the auction room.

Bring Payment and Identification:  Render payment immediately upon winning a bid, with the deadline set for 5:00 p.m. on December 4, 2024. Accepted forms of payment include cash, money orders, cashier’s checks, certified checks, and credit cards (MasterCard, Discover, Visa).
