Calhoun County, Alabama will hold its 2026 Tax Lien Auction on May 5, 2026, through the GovEase online auction platform, with bidding set to begin at 8:30 AM Central Time. County’s Revenue Commissioner states that unpaid property taxes lead to a May tax lien auction, and the county’s delinquent tax list also shows the sale date and start time as May 5, 2026 at 8:30 AM.

Key Auction Details:

Date: May 5, 2026
Location: Online at GovEase
Time: 8:30 AM Central Time
Registration Window: March 31, 2026 at 8:30 AM CDT through May 4, 2026 at 4:30 PM CDT (from the auction details you gathered)

Terms of Sale:

Calhoun County runs this sale as a tax lien auction, not a tax deed sale. In Alabama’s online tax lien auctions, bidders compete in a bid down format, and the winning bid is the lowest interest rate offered. GovEase states that these auctions begin at 12% interest, and the bidder who accepts the lowest rate wins the lien. When you win, you buy a tax lien certificate, not the property itself.

The county delinquent tax notice also states that each lien includes a $45 administrative fee under Alabama Code 40-10-184.

All bidders must submit the required registration forms and a refundable deposit equal to 10% of the amount they want approval to spend. For example, a bidder who wants a $12,000 spending limit must send a $1,200 deposit. GovEase must receive and process the deposit before it approves the bidder for the sale, based on the auction instructions you gathered.

GovEase support notes that wire deposits can take 24 to 48 hours to process, so bidders should send wires early. The platform will return refunds 7 to 10 business days after the sale fully finishes, using the same payment method used for the deposit, according to the county instructions you gathered.

How to Participate:

Create or log in to your GovEase account and complete the Calhoun County registration during the posted registration window. Submit every required form and document listed in the auction portal. Send your refundable deposit early enough for GovEase to review and approve your account before the deadline.

Start researching parcels before the sale. The Calhoun County Revenue Commissioner’s office states that unpaid property goes to auction in May, and the delinquent list for this auction appears on the county tax site.

Once approved, you can place pre-bids when pre-bidding opens and continue bidding live when the auction starts on May 5, 2026. If you plan to use the First Right Claims process mentioned in the auction instructions you gathered, you must register and gain approval first, then make the claim and complete payment by the deadline shown in the auction portal.
